About Us
Established in September 2000, RapSohD is a non-profit
community organisation, which has as its focus the motivation and
encouragement of teens to the pursuit of higher education and the
development of their potentials.
Its association with the performing arts scholarship competition
directed by Hal
Jackson's Talented Teens International ("HJTTI"), New York,
opens up an opportunity for providing such incentives for girls
between the ages of thirteen and seventeen years. We are trying
to find similar opportunities for teen-aged boys as well.
The official Board of Directors and the Advisory Committee are
volunteers comprising individuals noted and /or honoured for their
dedication to youth, education and/or community. In addition to
their careers, many are well-known for their establishment of drama
institutions and contributions to the performing arts.
Included on the Board of Directors are Dr. Clarence Bayne
(Black
Theatre Workshop), Mrs. Patty Benson - educator in Music,
Mr. Archie Greaves - Manager and recipient of the Governor
General's Commemorative Medal for contributions to community
and to Canada, Mrs. Elaine Heitner - college educator, Mrs.
Norma Heitner - founder of RapSohD and active member
of the Ensemble vocal Florilège de Pierrefonds, Mr. Christopher
Lester - college educator and director of the
John Abbott College Professional Theatre, Ms. Gemma Young
- library and community worker and Mrs Christina Soochan,
webmaster of our web site. A parent representative completes the
make-up of the 2005 board.
Among the supporters of RapSohD we count the Borough
of Pierrefonds/Senneville (City of Pierrefonds) and its adminstrative
staff. We also acknowledge the support given by the Honourable
Marlene Jennings, whose name appears on our letterhead.
Thank you to all our volunteers.
